The Kind of Projects I Want to Build Next
The work I am most interested in now: AI-native products, serious frontend systems, backend platforms, Rust developer tools, and products with real users.
I like building products where the work is real. Not just a landing page with no product behind it. Not just a dashboard that looks good in a screenshot. I mean software that users open, depend on, and come back to.
That is the kind of work I want more of.
AI-native products
I am very interested in AI-native development right now.
Not “add AI” as a checkbox. I mean products where AI is part of the workflow:
- Agents that can use tools
- Apps that can read documents and return structured results
- Internal systems that can route work automatically
- Developer tools that can inspect and modify code
- Support products that know when to answer and when to escalate
The interesting part is not the model call. The interesting part is the product loop around it: context, memory, permissions, validation, observability, and user control.
Frontend systems that need care
I still enjoy frontend work a lot, especially when the UI has real complexity.
Good frontend work is not only making a page pretty. It is about state, loading, errors, empty states, forms, accessibility, performance, and how the whole experience feels.
The frontend projects I like:
- React, Next.js, Remix, or Astro apps
- Dashboards with real data density
- Fast content sites with strong SEO
- Design systems that reduce repeated work
- Product screens where details matter
I like UI that feels sharp but still works like a tool.
Backends that support product speed
A backend should not become a place where features go to slow down.
I like building APIs with:
- Node.js, Bun, Hono, or Express
- PostgreSQL or MongoDB
- Typed validation at the boundary
- Clean error responses
- Background jobs when needed
- Good logs and metrics
- Tests around important behavior
The backend is successful when the product team can move faster because the system is clear.
Rust developer tools
Rust is where I go when performance and control matter.
I am especially interested in:
- Terminal UI frameworks
- Coding CLIs
- Local-first developer tools
- Rendering engines
- Fast parsers
- Small utilities that feel instant
This is why BetterTUI is exciting for me. Terminal UI looks simple, but it has deep problems: rendering, layout, text editing, input, animation, and developer experience.
Products with serious ownership
The projects I respect most have someone who really cares about the outcome.
If a founder or team knows the user, understands the problem, and wants to ship, I can work with that. The scope can be small or large. The important part is seriousness.
I am not interested in building random software with no direction. I am interested in building products where engineering quality and product thinking both matter.
What I bring
My strongest work is end to end:
- Planning the architecture
- Building the frontend
- Building the backend
- Connecting third-party services
- Handling release details
- Debugging production issues
- Making the product feel complete
I like when the responsibility is clear. Give me the product problem, the constraints, and the expected outcome. I will build the system around it.
Final thought
The next projects I want to build are practical, AI-aware, fast, and useful.
If the idea is strong and the owner is serious, I care about the work. That is the simple filter.
